To me this is one of the most revolutionary and successful design element of the 911. The rear quarter panel of the 991 is one of the most sensuous designs ever; I would even say it's on par with the curves of the 60's cars. And the tail lights do a beautiful job of resolving it. But even without that and just taking the tail lights on their own, I think they are the most refined ever of the 911. When I first saw the 997's tail lights I was impressed by how Porsche managed to do away with the ungainly design of the 996 and bring it back to a more understated classic 911 design but now the 997's tail lights look clunky compared to the 991's.

I love the 3D Tail lights that Citroën puts on the DS3 and some higher trim C4 Picasso (pictured).

I really like this design.

I would have to say like the last gen Mustang GT like the 13 and 14

Understand that you might not be banned if you don't choose the Dodge Charger taillights, it is a banable offense.

The 2015 Challenger

Yes! I love it especially because they did the classic across the rear width lights! I actually considered the Charger at one point.

Much more successful design than the Camaro in the twin stop light lamps to be honest. :)

I think the Challenger is a bit ungainly (top heavy)overall but the front and the rear faces are just perfect.

It's a great interpretation of the classic Mustang design for sure but I think I prefer the new Mustang's rear tail lights better. It just seems more refined. The front of the new design is controversial for sure!

If you think about it for what it is, it makes sense. If you look at it as a corner carver, it does not. It's a car built for light to light runs.

I'm going with P1, because duh. No photo because posting from phone :/ you can use google, right?

I love the subtle lighting tricks that BMW has been incorporating into their taillights lately. By that, I mean how the lens looks fairly conventional, yet there are some pretty wild designs when they're actually lit.
If you still need an interesting lamp shape, the i8's got you covered.

Looks like someone left a toy car under a heat lamp.

I just like the LED look of them and the way they are sunken in. I mean look at this
It's a Roush but those Tail Lights~

OMG YES. I was just today thinking about how I love how the rear end of the 991 looks more than my 997.2.
I like the front end of my car more. But the rear of the 991 is DEAD SEXY
My favorite recent tail lights:

The AM Vulcan, they're so fucking cool....
Also, I know these are aftermarket but I think they look really nice:

Volvo V60. As always, the classic waterfall tail lamps win.

Oh yes... vertical design before it was "mainstream." :P

Yes! Lincoln took a big risk with the slim line and it definitely stands out among the conventional rectangle designs. Dodge I think has been good at it in a retro way but I think the Mk-Z's design is much more successful in a modern way. Very underrated!

Yep, I think these are a great example of how LED's precision can be used for great effect.

Huh, never noticed it but then again I rarely pay attention to Passats. ;P

First of all, uber jealous that you have a 997.2. :P The front end of it compared to the 996 was like heaven-on-Earth. Porsche totally nailed that without a doubt. Also, as for your examples, I don't have a car (!) so I see those examples during the day and they are nice but if I was driving at night and saw those lit, I would be like damn...

Definitely love the thin lines surrounding each three elements!

So the first time I ever noticed how important tail lights can be to design is from the previous gen Mercedes SL and the E90 (?). I still remember texting my brother that the E90 series has the best rear-end. I just love how it ties everything at the end. I really think it's one of the toughest design elements on how to resolve the overall design to make it come to an endpoint.

I know I love that look! It was lost in the '15

In that sense, it accomplishes its design perfectly. Meant to be seen straight-on or behind. :)

You should pay attention to this one.

I'm currently failing at bowling with some of my friends. But I'd like to nominate the Dodge Durango racetrack tail lights. And Kinja Mobile probably doesn't want me to post a picture on here.

Yes they made up for the 996 in a big way!
Have you at least seen a 991 at night?
MY GOD
The tail lights are perfect

It's like the next level of tail light design. When I first saw it, it looked so fantastic. :)

Ignoring the hideous front end the Sonata Hybrid has great taillights
